This creamy white stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made in the 1950s and is marked Made In England but no manufacturer but is just like those manufactured at the same time by the Nutbrown company of England. The Nutbrown comapny has been making pie vents in England for 50 years or more. The pie vent was almost certainly made in Staffordshire England and I got it in the Potteries district recently. The pie vent measures 3 inches high by 2 inches in diameter and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. A fun piece. And practical! Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
