Carpet Ball Antique Original Black Plaid Bowl

This carpet ball or carpet bowl is over 100 years old and is of original glazed hard fired clay. The design is an interesting one of white and black plaid. Plaid was a favorite of Queen Victoria. The carpet ball is about 3.5 inches in diameter. It is quite heavy. The condition is very good. It has been used,and has 1 area of glaze loss which actually is smooth and feels as if it were done during manufacturing, but as these balls go it's in very good condition. There are the usual tiny circle dents where the ball has been hit hard. Carpet balls were developed during the reign of Queen Victoria--1832-1901--as a form of outdoor bowls to be played in the parlor. Original balls are very hard to find. These took me over a year.
