This antique glazed clay carpet ball or carpet bowl dates to 1870-1890s and was made in victorian England. The design is blue on white plaid. Plaid was a favorite of Queen Victoria. The carpet ball is about 3.5 inches in diameter. It is quite heavy. The condition is very good. It has been used, and there are the usual tiny circle dents where the ball has been hit hard. Carpet balls were developed during the reign of Queen Victoria who reigned from 1832-1901, as a form of outdoor bowls to be played in the parlor. Original balls are very hard to find. These took me over a year. Currently they are valued not only as victoriana but as a decorative accent. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured is $11.90.
