Mottoware Sugar Watcombe Devon Ware Soft Words Win

This is amottoware or motto ware sugar bowl or sugar basin made by Watcombe Devon Ware, England 1910-1920s. It has the motto Soft Words Win Hard Hearts and is in excellent condition. The whitish smear in the photo is light on the glaze and is not a paint flaw. The sugar bowl or basin measures 2 inches high by 3.5 inches in diameter. A wonderful piece of mottoware with a great saying from a very collectible pottery. This Famous and fun motto ware or mottoware has been manufactured in the south of England from the 1860s until the factories closed in the 1960s. It is usually of red clay decorated with bright glazes, cottages and mottos or sayings that run the gamut from proverbs and sound advice to nearly outrageous.
