This is a chintz biscuit jar or biscuit barrel in an art deco design vintage with fancy silver plate fittings. The biscuit jar was made by Midwinter, England now a part of Wedgwood in 1940-1946 in a pattern called Brama consisting of a green ground with a gold chintz grapes and grapevine overlay. The Brama pattern was substituted by what used to be the Springtime pattern in 1946-1947, so the dating is pretty narrow. The silver plated fittings are fancy and are marked EPNS with S F and 2 crossed arrows. The lid has a hand engraved floral design. This is what you would call a transitional piece from art deco to the purely decorative period to follow.
The biscuit barrel measures 6 inches high to top of jar by 5 inches square and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or wear. There is plating loss on the lid from polishing. But a lovely shape and pattern. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured.
