ANTIQUE IVY ENGRAVED serving spoons, pair of,
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2326 $120.00
length 8 5/8 inches, weight 3.9 Troy ounces, monogrammed "B", outstanding original condition, marked "Shreve Crump & Low" with 925 in oval.
Though not a "first demand" pattern, the Antique Ivies were made by several manufacturers, and involved extensive skill and hand work to produce. Expensive when first sold, they are members of a dying breed, as most flatware of this quality has now been consigned to the melting pot. This handsome pair was given as a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary gift... Click for details

Watrous sterling tea ball number 16
Silver : Sterling : Smalls
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2325 $75.00
pleasantly rotund and sturdy, this weighs just shy of one Troy ounce (.98) and is in excellent condition, with a fully functional hinge and a clasp which snaps shut properly.
Though it may only win second prize in a beauty contest, the price is attractive and we've certainly seen uglier ones.
For those of you who like comparison shopping, check item 192469545712 on the Bay of Eees, which weighed not even half as much and measured a mere inch an a quarter in diameter.

Franklin Porter hand wrought sterling shotglass
Silver : Sterling : Hollowware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2322 Sold
height 2; top diameter 1 3/4 inches, weight 2.4 Troy ounces, no monogram, marked as shown in third enlargement, some very minor insults to foot but fine overall condition.
As mentioned elsewhere on these pages, Porter's work is of inconsistent quality. Here, the soldering is a bit sloppy and the hammering is rather random. So let's just consider that part of the charm, if we may.

Holly, engraved master butter knife
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2316 On Hold
length 7 3/4 inches, weight a generous 1.95 Troy ounces, no monogram, marked only sterling but probably Vansant.
There is some slight wear to engraving on blade, though nothing tragic, and also a few scratches as shown in first enlargement which I'll gladly attempt to polish out before shipping if you ask me very nicely.

Gorham 1880 "Empress" Large Sterling Silver Serving Spoon
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Old Friends
3449f $115.00
Issued in 1880, Gorham's "Empress" incorporates a number of design elements, all evident on this 9 3/8" long, just over 3.0 T. oz., serving spoon. The lower portions of the handle where it joins the bowl suggest an Egyptian Revival influence, while other areas point toward Renaissance Revival inspiration. In addition, the dense floral clusters employ imagery similar to Gorham's "Cluny" pattern that was designed by Antoine Heller, who was highly regarded for his Classical motifs. Lastly,... Gorham MEDICI, OLD hooded aspargus server
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2312 Sold
length 9 3/4 inches, weight 5.38 Troy ounces, monogrammed "F" (reverse), a bit brighter than we'd like but still with minimal wear to the high points. Marked with Gorham trademark, star, sterling, copyrighted (twice!!), and datemark for 1886.
Even without the exquisitely engraved blade this would have been a rare find, so we're doubly pleased. Note: although this server is hollow handled, we do not believe it to be weighted.

with applied foliage and a blossom over acid etched decoration on hammered background, gilt bowl, no monogram, excellent condition, length 5 3/4 inches, weight 1.60 Troy ounces, marked "sterling" overstruck by "c".
This unusual combination of etched and applied decoration lends the piece a three-dimensional quality which is quite successful, artistically.
