Franklin Porter shot glass & cocktail strainer
Silver : Sterling : Hollowware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2294 Sold
height 1 7/8 and 2 1/4 inches respectively; gross Troy weight 5.1 ounces, no monogram, excellent condition although the ebony (or teak?) handle is a bit wobbly in place.
Porter was a highly talented silversmith, but his work is inconsistent and sometimes sloppy. These items showcase his skills at their best. The solder joints are subtle and superbly executed, the hammering is uniform and attractive, the piercings are symmetrical.

Durgin FAIRFAX pea spoon
Silver : Sterling : Flatware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2293 Sold
For our first listing of 2018, let's return to some good old fashioned pattern silver, a subject in which few folks seem to have any interest but we'll give it a shot because I'm a glutton for punishment and thrive on rejection.
Retailed by Boston's own late lamented and very elegant Bigelow Kennard, this implement is 8 5/8 inches long, weighs 2.76 Troy ounces, has no monogram and is in excellent condition. If memory serves me correctly, this is the first pea spoon we've ever offered in... Click for details

Twist Handle & Engraved Coin Silver Shell Bowl Serving Spoon
Silver : Coin Silver : Serving Pieces
Old Friends
3294f $85.00
Slender and delicate, this piece measures 8 3/4" long and weighs just under 1.2 T. oz. Marked only "Coin," without a maker's or retailer's identification, the rounded handle with notched tip essentially matches Gorham's early, 1865, "Italian" pattern, and the quality of manufacture suggests such a significant maker. This is bordered by fine wriggle work engraving and has an elegant period "EC" feathered script monogram set in the center of the plain area of the surface. The lower... Click for details
