Offered is a very nice late 18th Century American coin silver pictureback teaspoon by noted Philadelphia silversmith Abraham Dubois, circa 1785-95. This piece is engraved with a period block letter monogram of SY, and has a good strike of Abraham Dubois' full-name maker's mark. The back of the bowl has a die-struck decoration of a bird grasping an olive-branch, which is quite worn, perhaps 80 percent gone. Nonetheless, it adds a bit to this piece...

Offered is a scarce example of the silverwork of Amos Doolittle (1754-1832), a New Haven, Connecticut silversmith. Offered is a good 1790s American coin silver teaspoon by noted silversmith Thomas Arnold (1735-1828), who worked in Newport circa 1760-1817. Mr. Arnold had the interesting habit of marking many of his spoons, like this one, with both his initials mark and his full name mark. He was also interesting in that he was a prominent citizen of Newport. Per his Wikipedia entry, "According to the Newport Mercury of September 12, 1774, he received a master's degree from college in Providence, where ...

Offered is an interesting circa 1780 American coin silver spoon, perhaps by John Burger, or perhaps by John Benjamin (though it seems a few years too late for him), or another maker. The long drop on this spoon most resembles those on John Benjamin spoons (Burger's drops tend to be shorter and more pointed or cone shaped), adding to the mystery. This piece is struck twice with a maker's mark of I*B, and is engraved with a good period script monogram. This spoon measures about 4 5/8 inch i...

This spoon is an interesting mystery, that might be easily solved, or not. If you can provide a definitive identification of the maker of this spoon, with a reference, you will receive a nice coin silver spoon in good condition, or $15 off your next order with me. This spoon resembles some spoons by William Moulton, and may be by him, though I've not located a reference to this specific maker's mark. It could also be by someone else. The heel is quite specific. The spoon appears dirty, but ...

Not For Sale
NOT FOR SALE - Here's a challenge - a circa 1790-1810 American coin silver tablespoon marked only IS in a large serrated punch, with a nicely engraved period script monogram of GJM and a V-shaped drop. This piece measures about 9 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 59 grams. It came in a lot with a piece by Caleb Bentley of DC, VA and MD, and it has the look of rural VA, MD or PA. I haven't seen this particular mark before, and am hoping someone else has. If you can solve this piece (or gi...

For your consideration is an interesting late 18th Century style American coin silver spoon, marked "W (pellet) D". This mark has been attributed by Catherine Hollan to Wilson Dalzell (mark B) in her book on South Carolina silversmiths. This spoon measures about 4 15/16 inches in length and weighs about 8 grams. The light weight, unusual shell-back decoration, small bowl size, mark and engraving to the handle indicate to me that it is probably American, but I don't know for sure that it i...
