Offered is a nice little early American coin silver teaspoon by noted Delaware and Pennsylvania silversmith Isaac Woodcock, circa 1815. At this time, Isaac (son of noted silversmith Bancroft Woodcock) was working in Well's Valley, PA (between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg). This teaspoon bears one of Isaac Woodcock's full name maker's marks, and a period engraved script monogram that appears to be "NRG". This piece measures about 6 inches in length and weighs about 14 grams. Condition is barely ...

Offered is a rare example of the work and maker's mark of Jean-Felix LeFevre (1780 - 1813), silversmith of Philadelphia. This piece measures about 6 1/16 inches in length and weighs about 18 grams. This piece has a rubbed but legible maker's mark and a period engraved script monogram, perhaps of "CF". Condition is very good, with no dents, splits or repairs and only moderate surface wear from normal use. This piece should date to around 1800-13. All in all a good example of this interesting...

Offered is a very rare example of late 18th Century New York style decoration on a relatively tiny early American coin silver salt spoon, bearing the maker's mark of silversmith Thomas Burger. Mr. Burger and his father John Burger (working circa 1775-1807) were briefly in partnership circa 1805 and then Thomas Burger advertised alone circa 1806. After that he seems to disappear from directories, and I haven't found much information on him, despite his fame and that of his father. Presumably T...

Offered is a fine pair of early American coin silver sugar tongs by noted Philadelphia silversmith Joseph Anthony, who worked in that city from 1783-1809 on his own and from 1810-14 with his sons. This pair of tongs by style should date to about 1805-09 but could be a bit earlier. The maker's mark is one of Joseph Anthony's working alone, so this piece likely dates to no later than 1809. The maker's mark (see pics) is lightly struck, as is the case with most pieces by Mr. Anthony, and appears...

Offered is a lovely pair of early American coin silver sugar tongs marked Gordon in italicized lettering on each arm; this mark resembles one of the maker's marks attributed by the Darling Foundation to George Gordon of Newburgh, NY, working circa 1800-24. The only difference is that the mark in the Darling book also has a first name initial - G.GORDON in italicized lettering. It may be that the die for this mark was damaged and re-cut to eliminate all but the last name. It is also just possi...

Offered is a lovely pair of antique Scottish provincial silver sugar tongs, circa the first or early second quarter of the 19th Century. This piece is struck twice on one arm with a maker's mark of "E", often assigned to James Erskine of Aberdeen; the other arm bears a hallmark that looks like a circle or ring. This piece also has a period engraved monogram done in a typically Scottish style. This piece measures about 5 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 42 grams. All in all a lovely exam...

Offered is a lovely and scarce matched pair of quite early Old English Feather Edge pattern platter spoons or stuffing spoons, each fully hallmarked for London, 1774 and each bearing the maker's mark of noted London silversmith Thomas Chawner. Each server is engraved with an armorial of a dog, perhaps a spaniel of some kind. This is the earliest matched pair of stuffing spoons that I have come across. These spoons each measure about 12 1/4 inches in length and the pair weighs a total of about...

Offered is a lovely early American coin silver coffee spoon or teaspoon by noted New York silversmith Silas White (b. ca. 1737 - d. 1798), circa 1775-85 by style, and probably on the earlier end of that range. This piece has one of White's maker's marks documented at Winterthur and elsewhere, and shares the distinctive drop with other spoons bearing his mark. This piece has a good clear maker's mark and a period engraved block initial monogram. This spoon measures about 4 3/8 inches in length...

Offered is an interesting and unusual early 18th Century Brittania standard English silver tablespoon hallmarked for London, and what appears to be the year 1715 or so. The maker's mark is poorly struck but looks like it may be "Sc", which would make it likely the maker is William Scarlett, specialist spoonmaker of London working in this period. Scarlett was prolific and experimented with form, so that would make sense. This spoon has a very unusual midrib that branches out into almost a diam...

Offered is a lovely and scarce American coin silver serving piece bearing the maker's mark of George C. Shreve, working in San Francisco from about 1852 on. This piece appears to be a buckwheat or tomato server, but I am happy to be corrected if this piece had a different purpose. This server measures about 8 inches in length and weighs about 56 grams. It is decorated with a period Gothic initial "C" and clearly marked. The engraving on this piece is excellent and highly decorative. Conditi...

Offered is a nice early crested Georgian English sterling silver sauce or gravy ladle by noted London silversmith Richard Crossley, fully hallmarked for 1782. The armorial is of what appears to be a lion's paw emerging from a coronet and grasping an escallop (scallop shell); I've not researched the armorial to determine the family, but it is probably traceable. This piece measures about 6 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 52 grams. Condition is fair to good overall, with some surface wear...

Offered is a good pair of American coin silver sugar tongs decorated with die-struck basket of flowers motifs to each arm, and bearing the maker's mark of jeweler and silversmith Charles Bond of Boston, working circa 1825. This piece has a period engraved script monogram of "MJB" and is in good condition, with moderate surface wear and a few signs of use, but no dents, splits or repairs. It measures about 6 1/8 inches in length and weighs about 38 grams. All in all a lovely example of a desir...

Offered is a lovely American coin silver sugar sifter in an unknown but attractive pattern, bearing the maker's mark or retailer's mark of Harbottle & Smith, retailers of Auburn, NY circa 1850-67. The partners were George Harbottle and Charles Augustus Smith. This piece measures about 7 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 54 grams. It is engraved with period script monograms to the front and back of the handle, and a slightly later but similar small script monogram at the bottom of the hand...

Offered is a nice Scottish provincial silver spoon by jeweler and silversmith John Pringle, working in Perth circa 1823-60. This piece probably dates to the earlier part of Pringle's career. It is engraved with a period Scottish-style script monogram of JF or IF, and bear's Pringle's maker's mark, struck twice and accompanied by two strikes of a Perth eagle pseudo-hallmark. Please take a look at all the photos. This piece measures about 5 7/16 inches in length and weighs about 14 grams. Con...

Offered is a good and scarce pair of American coin silver table spoons from Hagerstown, Maryland. Some consider silver from Maryland towns like Hagerstown to be Southern coin silver due to the sympathies of many of the inhabitants. These spoons bear the maker's mark of Thomas Alexander Boullt (1818-1876), a well-known Hagerstown silversmith, jeweler, watchmaker and clockmaker. Take a look at all the pictures In the latter part of his long (1846-70s) career, Boullt was advertising as a jeweler a...

Offered is a fine and rare pair of early American coin silver sugar tongs by the celebrated Philadelphia partnership of Lewis & Smith. Harvey Lewis and Joseph D. Smith worked in partnership from about 1805 to 1811, and produced some of the most finely executed and beautifully engraved silver of their era. Many examples of their excellent hollowware and flatware are extant in public collections.

This piece measures about 6 3/4 inches in length, and weighs about 54 grams. It features a leg...

Offered is an extremely rare early American watch paper for Savannah, GA clock and watch maker James M. Jones, working circa 1825-50 in that city. Mr. Jones was also an active member of the community and a Lieutenant in the Chatham Artillery; he took part in the defense of Jacksonville in This watch paper was engraved by George W. Teubner of New York, who flourished between 1832 and 1845, so it is likely the watch paper dates to that specific period, probably on the earlier end. Please take a...
