Offered is a nice little American coin silver salt spoon marked J.B.SHEPARD in a rectangular punch, circa 1825-50. The location of this silversmith is unknown to me - if anyone can educate me, it would be most welcome! This piece is not engraved, and it is difficult to tell if it once had a monogram. The maker's mark is a little rubbed but is legible. This piece measures about 3 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 5 grams...

Offered is a nice American coin silver sauce ladle with fluted bowl and a great strike of the maker's mark. This piece also has period engraving to the handle. I didn't track down this tradesman, but would be interested in hearing about his whereabouts. This ladle measures about 6 inches in length and weighs about 22 grams. Condition is very good, with modest wear but no major dents and no splits or repairs. All in all a nice useful serving piece and a nice example of this mark!

Offered is a quite rare example of the work of Philadelphia jeweler and silversmith Frederick H. Smith, working from 1833 to 1845 with silver, and then in related lines thereafter. This spoon probably dates to the earlier part of his career. It has a very clear maker's mark, and this mark was pictured in the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. Smith's output, at least for flatware, seems to have been very small. This piece also has a period engraved script monogram...

Offered is a nice early American coin silver spoon bearing the maker's mark JAS.D.PHILIPS, probably for a man of that name who worked in New York. This mark has been mis-attributed to a Cincinnati and Kentucky silversmith, but the style of this piece likely precludes such an attribution. This piece has a clear, well-struck maker's mark and a worn but legible period script "BEB" monogram. This spoon measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 15 grams...

Offered is a very rare pair of Missouri coin silver spoons from Hannibal jeweler George Mitchell, whose biographical information appears below. These spoons are well marked with a mark of COIN, a mark of G.MITCHELL, and a mark of HANIBAL (the town's name was spelled "Hannibal" even during Mitchell's time there, so this mark was cut incorrectly by the die maker). Missouri silver sometimes includes a town mark, but Hannibal (hometown of Mark Twain) seems to be more rare than most as a mark...

NOT FOR SALE - Here's a challenge - a circa 1790-1810 American coin silver tablespoon marked only IS in a large serrated punch, with a nicely engraved period script monogram of GJM and a V-shaped drop. This piece measures about 9 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 59 grams. It came in a lot with a piece by Caleb Bentley of DC, VA and MD, and it has the look of rural VA, MD or PA. I haven't seen this particular mark before, and am hoping someone else has. If you can solve this piece (or gi...

Offered is a very fine example of the early maker's mark of noted Philadelphia silversmith Edward P. Lescure, who was working between 1822 and about 1836, and then intermittently through about 1861. While Lescure's later mark is well-known and seen periodically, this early mark is all but unknown, and perhaps only a tiny fraction of Lescure's extant work bears this mark. This spoon measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 18 grams. It has a faded period engraved script monogram....
