Solve This Late 18th Century American Mystery Mark and Win a Prize!
Not For Sale
Offered is a challenge - identify the silversmith who made this spoon, with a verifiable attribution, and I will send you a surprise coin silver teaspoon in good condition as a prize! I haven't yet found this mark anywhere, and thought it an interesting experiment to leverage the talents of some of the silver enthusiasts and experts out there. This piece measures about 9 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 50 grams. It is marked I*C in an irregular punch. The engraving and monogram are in a late 18th century style and are very well done. The style is similar to pieces from eastern Pennsylvania (particularly Philadelphia) and eastern Maryland (particularly Baltimore), but that is not dispositive. An interesting challenge - good luck!
