Offered is a fine pair of early American coin silver teaspoons by noted Philadelphia silversmith Henry Erwin, circa 1816-34. Although spoons by Erwin are not uncommon and I have handled many, the pseudo-hallmark on these spoons to the right of the maker's mark are unique in my experience. What exactly they represent visually is a mystery - it looks to me like a hunting dog looking back over its shoulder when oriented so that the bottom is toward the name mark. These spoons also have period engraved monograms to them. These pieces measure about 5 3/4 inches in length, and the total weight of the pair is about 26 grams. Condition is fair to good, with a few dings to the bowls but no dents, splits or repairs. All in all lovely example of this journeyman's mark on Henry Erwin silver!
