18th Century French Silver Tablespoon with Caribbean Inscription
ON HOLD
Offered is an interesting early French silver table spoon dating to before the French Revolution, and a survivor of the French occupation of San Domingo (Saint-Domingue), which ended in 1804. This tablespoon bears 18th Century French silver hallmarks and is engraved in later writing with the family name of Danieux to the front and an inscription to the reverse documenting the history of the spoon. This piece is quite heavy, measuring about 8 inches in length and weighing about 79 grams. Condition is fair overall, with surface wear and perhaps buffing prior to the later engraving, but no splits or repairs. All in all an interesting artifact of the French colonial era!
