Offered is a lovely early American coin silver teaspoon by a maker with a well-made "T.B" mark, circa 1805-15. Although this mark has been given to Newburyport, Mass. silversmith Theophilus Bradbury in one book on the basis of a single spoon with no provenance, that spoon and the several others I'm aware of with this mark have essentially nothing in common with Bradbury's known work, so he can be largely discounted as the putative maker of this piece. William Voss' American Silversmiths website attributes this mark to Timothy Bonticou (1791-1815), who died young in Savannah. This piece measures about 6 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 14 grams. Condition is good overall, with minimal wear and no dents and no splits - the spoon has been a bit over-polished and perhaps a few small dents taken out. Please review all the pictures. All in all a gorgeous coin silver spoon, perhaps Southern coin silver!
