Offered is a lovely Irish Georgian sterling silver hash spoon or stuffing spoon by noted Dublin silversmith Samuel Neville, and fully hallmarked (in a spot on the piece that is transitional) for Dublin, 1803 (or just possibly 1799). The prominent feature of this excellent serving piece is the armorial of a pelican in its piety, feeding its chicks with its own blood in the nest. This armorial is associated with the Stewart/Stuart clans of Ireland and elsewhere in the UK. This platter spoon also features a period engraved set of owner's initials ("AS", presumably for a member of the Stewart family) to the heel, as is sometimes seen on these Irish pieces.

This piece measures a bit under 13 inches in length and weighs about 124 grams. Condition is very good, with minimal wear aside from some moderate rubbing of the hallmarks, minor signs of use and scratches, and no tip wear to speak of. There are no dents, splits or repairs. Please review all pictures. All in all an excellent example of this form from an important maker and a prominent group of families!
