This piece is not for sale, but I will offer $15 off your next order (or a coin silver teaspoon of my choice, if you prefer), if you can definitively solve the mark on this spoon, which appears to date to about the 1815-35 timeframe. The mark is PITKIN in primitive letters (with a reversed final "N") in a rectangular punch. The drop is a well-defined semi-circle. The period engraved script monogram runs lengthwise. This piece measures about 6 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 14 grams. Condition is very good overall, with minor wear and small dings, but no splits or repairs. All in all a lovely old mystery spoon!
I seem to recall this mark being associated with a silversmith named Pitkin working in Ohio, but perhaps that is just a faulty memory. Any help would be appreciated!
