SOLD

Offered is a good American coin silver teaspoon by Boston silversmith Joseph Foster (1759-1839), an apprentice of Benjamin Burt. He apprenticed from 1774-81 and then worked on his own from 1781 until about 1830 in Boston. This spoon should date to somewhere in the 1810-25 range by style. It is engraved with a period script initial "E" for the original owner, and has a clear, legible strike of Foster's maker's mark. This piece measures about 6 1/8 inches in length and weighs about 18 grams. Condition is good overall, with a few tiny dimples in the bowl and the bowl slightly out of round, but with no splits or repairs. All in all a good example of this maker's mark and this man's work!
