SOLD

Offered is a mystery late 18th Century American coin silver birdback teaspoon marked I*D, quite possibly an unrecorded mark used by John David of Philadelphia, or less likely a mark used by Joshua Dorsey, also of Philadelphia. Perhaps an attribution can be made based on the pictureback decoration of the eagle, though it is quite worn. This spoon has a clear maker's mark and a period engraved block-letter monogram. It measures about 5 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 11 grams. Condition is pretty poor overall, with the stem flattened and the surface somewhat worn, but there are no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of this mark variation!
