Offered is a lovely American coin silver table spoon circa 1820, marked J.BAILEY in a rectangular punch. A colleague has suggested this spoon by style would be a good fit for John Bailey (1787-1883), working in Portland, Maine from 1809-11 and in Hanover, MA from 1812 to 1823 as a clockmaker. John's father, also John Bailey (1751-1823) could also have made this piece. This large and heavy (9 inches in length and 61 grams) spoon has a really well engraved period script monogram of "ESG" and a well-struck maker's mark. Condition is excellent, with minimal wear and no dents, splits or repairs. All in all an excellent example of antique American silver dating back two centuries!
