Great Long-Handled Condiment Spoon by William Boning of Philadelphia
Offered is an excellent American coin silver long-handled condiment spoon or ladle, done in the Prince Albert pattern and engraved with a good period script set of initials. The maker's mark or retailer's mark of William Boning on this piece is W.BONING incuse; it is one of two William Boning marks recently discovered, the other being in a rectangular punch. Neither mark appears in "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan, probably due to the rarity of pieces marked by this man. This piece should date to the 1840s or 1850s. It measures about 5 3/8 inches in length and weighs about 20 grams. Condition is excellent, with minimal wear and no dings, dents, splits or repairs. Please review all of the pictures. All in all a fine example of this pattern and this man's mark!
