Scarce Pair of Pittsburgh, PA Coin Silver Teaspoons, Henry Richardson
$45.00
Offered is a nice pair of American coin silver spoons by Pittsburgh jeweler and watchmaker Henry Richardson, working circa 1850-65. Henry was the brother of Alexander Richardson, and inherited his business sometime around 1850. The mark on these spoons, H.RICHARDSON in a serrated rectangular punch, is often mis-attributed to a Providence, RI jeweler of the same name; however, these spoons have a unique style and proportions common amongst Pittsburgh spoons of this specific period, and spoons with this mark are commonly found with other Pittsburgh silver from local families. These spoons are engraved "RS" in period script. They measure a little under six inches in length and weigh about 30 grams altogether. Condition is fairly good overall, with the bowls modestly out of round and with typical signs of use, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of pre-Civil War Pittsburgh coin silver!
