SOLD

Offered is an extremely rare example of the work of Philadelphia silversmith George Harford (fl. 1789-1826), the first I've come across in decades. This example is a pictureback (birdback) teaspoon featuring a husky eagle with shield, making this piece even more special. This spoon has a rubbed but legible maker's mark for George Harford, a period engraved monogram of "MAH", and a well-preserved example of his die-struck eagle and shield decoration to the back of the bowl. This spoon measures about 5 1/2 inches in length, and weighs about 15 grams. Condition overall is excellent, with minimal wear and no dents, splits or repairs. Please click on the first picture to review all of the pictures. All in all a superb example for any collection of birdbacks or picturebacks!
