Offered is a rare example of the wares of the jewelry and arms firm of E.J Johnston & Co., of Macon, GA. This partnership comprised Edward (Edmund) J. Johnston and George S. Obear, and is well-known for its production of various types of swords for the officers and men of the Confederate Army. This spoon probably pre-dates the war, as E.J. Johnston & Co. was in business from about 1853 to 1868-69. This teaspoon has a legible maker's mark or retailer's mark, and a period engraved script monogram of 'CRS'. It measures about 6 inches in length and weighs about 20 grams. Condition is fairly good overall, with some shallow denting in the bowl and some moderate surface wear, but no splits or repairs.
