Nice Philadelphia Coin Silver Spoon by Americus Lancaster, Ca. 1839-60
SOLD
Offered is a lovely American coin silver teaspoon by little-known Philadelphia jeweler Americus Lancaster, working circa 1839-80; this spoon should date to between 1839 and 1860 based on style. This piece is engraved with a period script monogram of "RME" and bears one of two known marks for Americus Lancaster; the mark on this specific spoon was used in the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. This piece measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 16 grams. Condition is very good, with a few almost imperceptible shallow bumps the the bowl but minimal wear and no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of a scarce maker's mark or retailer's mark!
