Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
Scarce Frederick, MD Coin Silver Spoon by Frederick Nusz Circa 1818-19
$48.00
Offered is a fine and rare early 19th Century American coin silver teaspoon by little known clockmaker, watchmaker and silversmith Frederick Ezra Nusz (ca. 1799-1832), who was listed in directories only in 1818-19, but likely worked a few more years. There are seven known clocks with his name affixed, and occasionally flatware or a watch paper appears. This is a lovely and well-made teaspoon, measuring about 5 3/4 inches in length and weighing about 15 grams. It is engraved with period script initials "JS" for the original owner. Condition is good overall (I've not cleaned it), with modest bumps and signs of use but no splits or repairs. All in all a great inland Maryland coin silver spoon!
