Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
Crested Georgian Silver Ladle, Ca. 1772, London
SOLD
Offered is a lovely and well-made George III sterling silver gravy ladle or sauce ladle hallmarked for London, 1772, and engraved with an armorial of an eagle's head or perhaps phoenix's head erased. The maker's mark is squeezed, but appears to be "?W" over "?T" - the year is too early for Wakelin and Taylor, so someone else. This piece is very nicely made, better than the usual, and the engraving is also very good. This ladle measures about 6 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 53 grams. Condition is very good overall, with a couple of small dings or dimples in the bowl but no splits or repairs. A nice example of this form, ready for use!
