Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
Decorated 1790s Philadelphia Coin Silver Spoon by William Ball
$32.50
Offered is a nice scarce example of the work of Philadelphia silversmith William Ball (1729-1810), circa 1790-1800. This teaspoon is engraved "SC" in period script within a lovely foliate and trailing vine reserve, and is marked with William Ball's known full name mark to the reverse.
This piece measures about 4 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 7 grams. Condition is fair at best, given that it has a repair to the bowl (see pictures), but it is a rare example of this man's work and very nicely engraved. All in all a lovely late 18th Century American coin silver spoon!
