excellent condition, monogrammed "W" (see second photo), length 5 3/8 inches, weight 6.21 Troy ounces. These have an embossed decoration on the bowl which we suspect that later versions of this piece do not possess.

regional interest, Beggs & Smith, Cincinnati circa 1850, engraved "Irwin", some light wear but fine overall condition, length 5 3/8 inches. Did Irwin use this to embellish his hot dog, and if so was it a Kosher dog? Alas, we may never know...

exceptionally colourful, gilt bowl, no monogram, excellent condition save for one small portion of missing blue inlay (see third photo). I hesitate to call this damage. Gorham had significant problems with the enameling process and it may be a slight "second".

Boston circa 1850, a long (14 inches) and elegantly proportioned piece of silver, no monogram, fine condition, faintly gilt bowl, marked only "Bigelow Bro's & Kennard". A perfect gift for the Boston bride...

Each link comprises a backing of pierced and hand-filed silver fused to a top portion of gold. It has a great feel "in the hand" and lies flat on the neck without kinking or fussing. The only mark appears to be "372 B" in a tiny hexagonal punch. I suspect that it is Spanish, and the B stands for Barcelona, but wouldn't stake my life on it. At any rate, we're hard pressed to think of a more attractive necklace that's ever passed through our establishment. And with the price of gold soar...

Those of us who had a chance to visit the "Silver and Shawls: India, Europe, and the Colonial Art Market" at Harvard's Sackler Museum are no doubt all steamed up about anglo-Indian silver, and want a little example for our collection. Stop here. This is a great one. Length just shy of 5 inches; width 1 1/8; decagonal in section; nearly flawless condition (lid over stoppered end does not hold tightly-- see third photo). Unmarked; no monogram.

guilloché enamel box, three distinct patterns visible in the engine turned engraving depending on your angle of vision (see enlargements), double hidden integral hinges opening outward from the center, gilt interior, 3 1/4 by 2 1/8 by 3/8 inches. There is a minor flake in the enamel (see third photo) which doesn't extend through to the metal, and some scuffing around the edges on reverse but aside from this the condition is superb. Some might hold out for pie in the sky when they die, others would prefer to eat it now. We won't confess to endorsing either preference but will provide the right utensil for those who fall into category number two. Just shy of 7 1/4 inches long, excellent condition, weight 1.58 oz. or just some royal wannabe born away in her covered chair by those two fine gents? No comment from Yours Truly. Queen or not, this is a good continental silver box with finely done acid etched cover, no monogram, excellent condition, 2 1/2 by 1 inches, marked "sterling / 935" (see second photo).
