Glendenning was by his own telling a street kid from Gardner who discovered Stone's workshop, became enthralled with the goings on there, and was taken in by the great master of American Arts & Crafts silver as an apprentice. The youngest of the original members, he is said to have claimed that "Stone made me a silversmith and made me a gentleman."

In 1936, he left to form a partnership with George Erickson, which lasted until 1971...
