Providence circa 1790, downturned pointed end with slashed drop, length 8 3/4 inches, weight 1.84 oz. Troy, marked and monogrammed as shown in enlargements.

There are some faint lines in the bowl (see fourth photo), probably where a few dents were rolled out, but the overall condition of this spoon is exceptional, with little or no tip wear, a well-struck mark, and excellent weight.

round downturned ends with short back midrib decoration and raised arch drops, length 8 3/4 inches, weight 4.14 Troy ounces the pair, some very light wear to engraving but fine overall condition, marked as shown in fifth enlargement with Vernon's distinctive pseudo-hallmarks.

Collecting early American silver does not have to be an overly expensive proposition, although you could also find similar spoons on ebay (item 274673082801) @195.00 each!

NY circa 1790, bright cut borders with oval cartouche, elongated bowls with raised oval drops, length 8 3/4 inches, weight 3.13 Troy ounces the pair, marked and monogrammed as shown in enlargements. There is some softening to the decoration, but the bowls are largely free of tip wear and both spoons are in very good overall condition...

Minott was born in Concord, MA, December 22, 1732. He married Elizabeth Davis in 1762, and spent his working career in Boston after apprenticing to William Holmes. His work is well collected...

Philadelphia circa 1790, with round downturned end and rounded drop, length 14 1/4 inches, weight 6.0 Troy ounces, monogrammed "RRC" (period script, obverse), with a scratch below these initials as shown and a few minor nicks in bowl but very good overall condition. In an attempt to distinguish this ladle from its peers, we'll mention that the bowl has a slight boat shape when viewed head on, as you may see in photo number four.

Massachusetts circa 1790, length 6 1/8 inches, monogrammed MPH (?) in period script with flourishes, weight .42 oz Troy, excellent condition, please see third enlargement for mark.

Grant was a Colonel in the Revolutionary war, a shipowner, and a man of considerable wealth. His work is in the MFA and also at Old Deerfield.

Philadelphia circa 1790, a fine, large and massive piece, length 14 inches, length of bowl five inches, weight 6.87 Troy ounces, marked JA struck twice in cut cornered rectangle. There is a minor fill at the edge of the bowl (please see fifth photo) and some scratches on reverse, but excellent overall condition.

This spoon is not monogrammed and does not appear ever to have been, which is most unusual for early American silver.

dessert spoons, Paris circa 1780, .950 standard, maker's mark LTA (please see fifth photo), total Troy weight 20.75 ounces, some light wear but fine overall condition, with crest as shown though one spoon also has a period script "S" monogram. The forks measure 20.5 and the spoons 19.5 centimetres.

French silver from this period is quite scarce. Price is for the total of eight pieces.

New York circa 1750, with round upturned end, spatulate midrib, long elliptical bowl and molded drop, length 7 3/4 inches, weight 1.72 oz. Troy.

There is slight tip wear from right handed use, a few minor insults to the bowl (including a scratch, reverse), and significant wear to the monogram "B / E * E". On the whole, however, this spoon presents itself well. To quote Quimby in American Silver at Winterthur, "Stoutenburgh left a small body of high quality work"...
