engraved on reverse "Comp'n Thos R. Smith appointed Grand Sword bearer AL 5834 AD1830", diameter 2 1/2 inches, pristine original condition, weight .80 Troy ounces, tests 14K, unmarked. It's possible that this piece has had an erasure, but if so, it's subtle and difficult to distinguish. However, the overall presentation is excellent, and so is the price!

awarded to the Schooner Marguerite, the undulating rim comprising twelve cast and applied foliate scrolled panels, the cast circular foot with waves, flowers and foliage, top diameter 11 1/2; base and height each six inches, weight 53.74 Troy ounces, a few very minor dents but excellent overall condition, richly gilt interior, engraved "Annual Regatta / on the 25th Anniversary of the / Eastern Yacht Club / July 17th 1895 / First Prize / Won by / Schooner Marguerite"

length 6 1/8 inches, weight .84 oz Troy, marked as shown in fourth enlargement. If memory serves me correctly, and on occasion these days it does, this is a Durgin pattern.

Perhaps you know an Ellen who loves pie, though on second thought who doesn't love pie, so let's leave out the perhaps.

with oak leaves and acorns, height and diameter both approximately 1 3/4 inches, weight 1.8 oz Troy, fine condition, marked only "S 620" but according to a Very knowledgeable fellow, the work of Wood and Hughes.

Allow me to begin by saying all the things it's not: 1) Ashbee 2) Knox 3) Liberty 4) perfect.

And now, let's move along to cheerier thoughts...

spoons, London 1842, length four inches, weight a rather stunning .92 Troy ounces each, maker SC, untouched original condition, no monogram. The reverse of bowl with a lion's face cast in high relief, the tail entwining handle and terminating in a cast and chased paw with superb detail.

I do not recall ever having seen a finer pair of master salt spoons.

unmarked but probably Scandinavian circa 1880, diameter 5 7/8 inches, enamel appears to be perfect and we've found no breaks in the silver. Add a zero on to our price and you still couldn't buy a new one of comparable quality...

Birmingham 1905, maker J.A.R., diameter 1.5 inches, weight 1.05 oz. Troy, excellent condition, no engraving, gilt silver. Please see third photo for marks.

Ball Black & Company circa 1875, with satyr's head handle, stepped oval foot, finely engraved crest and body (please see third image), height 3 5/8 inches, weight 4.74 Troy ounces, some staining to interior as shown but excellent overall condition, no monogram in opposing cartouche.

height 11; bottom diameter five, length across handle to spout 9 inches, weight 47.5 Troy ounces, retailed by Theodore Starr (maker's mark effaced) and monogrammed as shown. We always hesitate to say that an item is in "perfect" condition, but I am hard pressed to find fault with this one...

Readers of our little web page know that we're obsessed with comparison shopping, but we were slightly shocked to find just one lone Chrysanthemum teaspoon (item 123611846786) had recently sold on the big bad auction site for 49 American moneys. Holy guacamole!
