Sterling tea strainer and footed glass bowl with metal rim to hold strainer. By Ralph Grimm, veteran of World War I who lost both legs in the war and learned silversmithing at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC after the war. Length of strainer 5-3/4", width 3-1/4", height on holder 2-1/8", height of strainer 3/4". Weight of silver 2-1/2 troy ounces. Overall and mark condition are excellent. The marks are GRIMM incuse and the Walter Reed Hospital logo of a stylized W in a circle. Information about Grimm can be found on the website www.SMPub.com/ubb/Forum/HTML/000205.html, including a picture of him in a wheelchair at his silversmithing bench, and another of him with Mrs. Calvin Coolidge. He appears in the 1920 census as a patient at Walter Reed Hospital and in the 1930 census as a jeweler and silversmith in Washington, DC.
