Vintage 1940's L.E.Smith black glass swan (amethyst)

This 5 1/2" high 8 1/2" long 3 3/4" wide black glass swan is by L.E. Smith Glass Co. Founded in 1907, the company developed shades of colored glass in the 1920's, and in the late 1920's hit on a formula for black glass that set it apart from all others of the time. This special black glass shows amethyst color when held up to a bright light, which this swan will illustrate when placed in sunlight. The swan has a wee bit of wear on the beak that was painted, and there are a couple of tiny roughness on the top rim; considering its age, it is in very good shape. L.E. smith was known for their premier glass products, and this swan is a good example.
