Measuring 7 1/4" long and weighing a relatively heavy 1.3 T. oz., this knife is engraved "SCB" in a fancy, feathered script, set above "July 1859."

Just slightly smaller than a tea or dessert knife, it is a youth size piece.

An "Oval Thread" design, it is stamped "Bigelow Bros. & Kennard" for the prominent Boston firm of the period. It is also marked "Sterling," which is early for this date; coin would be expected.

It is solid silver, with a flat handle, and blunt-end blade.

It is in very good condition, showing scant signs of use, mostly in the form of light surface scratches, and slight softening of the engraving from polishing. The finish is bright and even, and the blade is free of nicks, bends, or tip wear.
