Measuring 9 3/4" long, this pie server is an early example of Durgin's Art Nouveau "Iris."

It has a hollow handle and a silver plate blade, which component is something of a rarity when found in good condition, as such blades are subject to wear and, soon after the 1900 date of this design, were supplanted by stainless steel composition.

The pattern is akin to Durgin's "New Art," showing high relief iris blossoms, with long, sinuous, leaves trailing up the handle.

The blade is flat and tapered, and has a rounded end.

Without a monogram or removal, the piece is in excellent condition. The handle retains full clarity of design, and is free of dents, splits, or pinholes. While showing some edge wear, the blade is without rust spots or peeling, conditions that often vex older pieces, and has considerable usable life left in it.

It is stamped "Sterling" on the margin of the handle where it joins the blade.
