A very generously sized item at 12 1/8" long and 4.6 T. oz. weight, this fish serving slice was made by Whiting, whose "winged lion" logo, and the words "Sterling" and "Pat. Appd. For" appear on the backside of the handle.

The pattern, "Bead," was introduced in 1880, and in addition to a namesake beaded border, it features a fully articulated, high relief, shell at the handle end. This element shows particularly well at the scale of this piece.

The 7 1/2" long by 2 1/2" at the widest, blade has a swooping lower edge leading to a pointed tip. The upper raised shoulder is scalloped, lending it a wave-like imagery.

Never monogrammed, it is in outstanding estate condition. Polishing wear is nil, and the finish is rich and bright. The blade remains flat and free of bends, nicks, or burrs, but does show surface scratches consistent with normal use.
