$50.00

Measuring 13 1/2" overall, this carving set item has a silver handle and guard, both stamped "Sterling," while the guard is also imprinted with Whiting's "winged lion" logo, and the handle is stamped "Pat. 1891."

It also has a steel rod that makes up nearly two-thirds of the total length of the piece. This is six-sided and pointed. It appears to be a skewer although it is often identified as a sharpener or hone. Typically, however, these latter were rounded and had knurled surfaces.

This is an early example of Whiting's "Louis XV" pattern and has an Old English "P" monogram on one side of the handle.

It is in very good condition. Having a bright finish, the handle retains clear detail and is free of dents or splits, showing only light surface scratches consistent with normal use. The steel shows no rust or chips, and has a sharp tip.
