A very lengthy 10 7/8" overall, with a triangular blade that measures 5" by 3" at the widest, and weighing 3.1 T. oz., this pie or pastry server dates to the third quarter of the 19th century.

It is marked "Bigelow.Bros & Kennard" for the major Boston firm that operated under several name variations, and "925" in an oval for sterling silver.

The handle is an "Old English" pattern with a "Tipt" backside. The front is engraved in a design that is identified as either "Buckle" or "Garter," the interior of which is engraved "E.S.F. from G.W.F."

The blade has scalloped shoulders and slightly upraised edges. The surface is extensively engraved in a pattern that incorporates Gothic elements, as well as engine turning, floral details, and a leaf and wriggle work border.

The backside is plain, save for the marks.

The condition is outstanding. Apart from light surface scratches consistent with age, there is no evidence of use. The engraving remains crisp and the blade is free of bends, nicks, or burrs. The finish has a warm patina.
