An 1880 design, Whiting's "Italian" was issued as a primary pattern, and in several variants which were the same as the basic pattern, but had additional engraving.

This 5 1/2" long, 1.1 T. oz., sugar sifter is in the basic pattern, which has a pointed end with a convex area on each side of the arched handle. Other detail includes a lacy leaf design that is accented by what appears to be a tied ribbon or bow.

This piece has a relatively deep, round, scallop-shaped, pierced bowl with a gray gold, satin finish.

There is a script "GW" monogram on the handle front.

In excellent condition, this is free of polishing wear and has a warm patina. The bowl is without dents or bends, but shows one nearly imperceptible, 1/16" long, surface crack on the rim near the handle.

Marks are Whiting's "lion" logo, "Sterling," and "1."
