"Maison Cardeilhac" was a truly storied name among 19th and 20th century French silver producers, associated first with founding father Antoine-Vital, then his son and grandson, before being absorbed by another prominent firm, Christofle, in 1951.

Winners of numerous exhibition medals, examples of the firm's work are held by several prominent museums.

This piece is a 7" diameter, weighty at 6.8 T. oz., round plate, which could also be used as a wine coaster.

It is stamped on the reverse with the French first standard "Minerva head," indicating .950 silver, slightly higher than sterling at .925, the maker's emblem "E.C." in a caret for grandson Ernest, and the word "Cardeilhac" written out.

It has a raised beaded border on the edge of a 1" wide rim which is etched in a small floral, possibly morning glory, repeating design.

Evidencing the quality of manufacture that would be expected of this source, the piece was never monogrammed or inscribed and remains in superb condition. It is without bends, nicks, dents, or polishing wear, and shows a rich finish.
