HOLD

As might be surmised from the name, Gorham's 1871 "Corinthian" pattern is a Greek Revival design.

It incorporates an anthemion along with other elements that tend toward the Moorish, all set on the end of a tubular handle.

This example is a 5 1/4" long, approximately .5 T. oz., mustard ladle.

Fully original, i.e. not "made up" from another piece, it has a round bowl with pointed tip, notched shoulders, and a central vee in the base. This is finished with a (partly rubbed) gold wash.

The handle front is engraved with a flowing, feathered script "MLC" monogram.

In very fine condition, this retains clear pattern detail, is without bends or dents, and possesses a warm finish.

Marks are Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem, "Sterling," and "Pat. 71."
