HOLD

A weighty item at just over 2.0 T. oz., this 6 3/4" long, flat handle, solid coin silver master butter knife is marked "Bailey & Co." for the 1848-72 firm established as "Bailey & Kitchen" in 1832, and which eventually evolved into Philadelphia's "Bailey, Banks & Biddle" premier retail establishment.

A "King" pattern, it has a concave shell on the handle front and a convex one of the backside, along with elongated honeysuckles set mid handle and at the join with the blade.

The obverse is engraved "Alexander" set sideways in fine script lettering.

The blade has a curved lower edge leading to an upswept, pointed tip. The upper edge is scalloped.

In exceptionally fine condition, this is free of polishing wear, bends or nicks on the blade, and shows a warm, even, finish.
