A contemporary of silversmith Georg Jensen, whose name is virtually synonymous with the "Danish Modern" style of silver, Evald Nielsen may have been the more influential, and possibly the more accomplished, of the two men.

Long time master of the Goldsmith's Guild of Copenhagen, he produced flat and hollow ware along with jewelry. Ample biographical information about him is available on the internet, along with examples of his work.

This item is a 4 1/2" long, .4 T. oz. (13 grams), .830 silver standard, coffee spoon in his No. 6 pattern, dated 1922, as indicated by the marks which appear on the otherwise plain backside of the piece. These also include Nielsen's "EN" emblem.

Entirely hand crafted, this has a mindfully hammered bowl, front and back sides, i.e. the hammering marks appear to be placed in orderly fashion, rather than randomly so.

The front of the handle shows a similarly textured surface, with the raised leaf and fruit detail at the terminal all obviously precisely formed as well.

A very early, fully original, production item that has never been monogrammed or inscribed, this remains in flawless condition, without wear or damage, and shows a rich patina.
