Measuring 6 3/4" tall and weighing 5.5 T. oz., this George III English sugar caster aka muffineer is fully hallmarked on the underside for London, 1762-63, sterling silver, and maker John Delmester (I·H). The sleeve of the cap is countermarked with a "lion passant" and "I·H."

It is baluster form and sits on a tiered base that is 2" in diameter.

The cap is lofty, projecting 2 3/4" above the lip of the body and has a 3/4" extension that fits into the base. It is pierced and engraved in a period design and surmounted with an urn finial (see image 2).

The body is finely engraved in a crest that portrays a hand coming out of a turret and holding a leaf and berry spray.

In excellent condition, this is without dents or breaks in the silver, showing perhaps three faint dimples on an otherwise smooth surface, and has a brilliant finish. The cap fits snugly and the base is even, with a faint bit of rocking motion when tapped.

Note: please see items 4747f and 4195f for other muffineers, and inquire about additional examples.
