This weighty, 3.0 T. oz., 9" long, c. 1865 solid silver pie server, aka pie knife, is marked for the Brockton, Massachusetts jeweler "Gurney Brothers" ("Bro's." as stamped).

Also marked "Pure-Coin," this doubtlessly has Boston origins, likely made by Farrington and Hunnewell, based on the design.

It has an Old English, i.e. downturned, rounded end, Reverse Tipt handle.

The 4 1/2" long by 2 3/4" at the widest, blade is unusually shaped, with a double scalloped edge, a raised vee in the base, cupped shoulders and sides, and a softly rounded tip.

A second distinguishing feature of the piece is the delicate leaf and flower engraving on the handle and blade. Boston work of the period was known for its precise diamond cut work, and while this is not that nor unique, it is particularly finely rendered and charming in manner.

There is an elegant "MAH" script monogram engraved on the handle front.

In very good condition, it is absent damage and polishing wear is minimal; the design remains clearly defined. The blade is flat and even, but does show light surface scratches and one faint crimp toward the tip.
