Gipsy was one of George Shiebler's first, original, full line patterns (vs. many of his other of early patterns which he brought over from other sources).

It is a Moorish design consistent with many other patterns of the period, Tiffany and Whiting's Persian, Gorham's Raphael and Hindostanee and Wendt's Moresque being instances of the more prominent corresponding designs.

Gipsy incorporates a leafy, repetitive, motif on the front of a rounded end handle. The backside is plain save for a double lined border, and the marks which are Shiebler's "winged S" emblem, "Sterling," and "Pat. 81."

This example is a large, 9" long, weighty at 2.8 T. oz., berry or other (rice or casserole for instance) serving spoon.

The generously-sized, 3 1/2" by 2 1/2" by 1" deep, bowl is particularly impressive. It has a raised central vee in the base, a fluted or piecrust rim, is bright cut engraved on the interior and margins, and is finished in a deep, satin matte, gold wash front and back sides.

In superb unworn condition, this is essentially without evidence of use and has a bright, even, finish. Note: there is the possibility there has been a monogram removal in the reserve area on the handle front, but if so, it is essentially indiscernible.
