$235.00

An early production piece in Whiting's commanding King Edward pattern, this grandly-scaled, 9 3/4" long, weighty at 4.0 T. oz., berry or other (rice, entree, or vegetable, for example) serving spoon is marked with the company's "lion and W" logo, "Sterling," and "Pat. Ap. 23, 1901," as well as the retailer's name, "Shaw & Berry Co.," Washington, DC.

The patent date corresponds with the ascension of Edward VII to the English throne and the beginning of the era named for him, so it is fitting that the design, incorporating shell, leaf, and scroll motifs set in high relief, derives from a traditional King's pattern.

The bowl is the equivalent of just that, meaning it could stand on its own as a dish. It is shell form, and a very large 4 1/4" by 3 1 4" at the widest by 3/4" deep. It is finished in a satin matte gold wash on the interior.

Elegant in design and grand in scale, this was never monogrammed and remains in superb estate condition. It is without polishing wear, has a perfectly shaped bowl without dents or bends, and shows a bright and even overall finish.
