A rare print by surrealist print maker Ozaku Seishi, professor emeritus from Tama Art University. He is best known for small edition etchings, usually up to 30 copies, limitless experimentation with printing techniques and surrealist, often graphic imagery resembling distorted reality ¬neither quite explicit nor quite horror, but rendering a fairly dark version of dreams. This lithograph on Arches paper is from a 1994 portfolio titled “Constitutional Fantasy”, vol. 1 (憲法幻想その壱), which consisted of 15 prints and an original painting. Volume 2 was never published. Print is marked 11, and depicts thirty fourth chapter of Ozaku’s imaginary tale and the title is “Invasion Without Permission” (勝手に侵入 ). Image size is 37.5 cm × 33 cm, paper size 52.8 cm x 45.5 cm. Blind seal at lower right corner bears the publisher’s information: Green Graphics, Tokyo. Signed in pencil, this is Artist Proof (EP for épreuve d'artiste). Entire edition consisted of 20 numbered prints, 5 Artist Proofs and 4 HC prints. Condition: minuscule handling creases, one area where dealer notations were erased. Ozaku’s work is in permanent collections of the British Museum, Portland Art Museum, Honolulu Museum of Art, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, The Museum of Modern Art Kamakura & Hayama to name a few. Condition: minuscule handling creases, an area of abrasions where dealer notation were erased.
