An abstract sculpture made of fused, oblong and un-glazed porcelain tubes. The piece has been modified by willful hammering to provide it with the desired shape. Signed and dated: Takeuchi Kouzo 2009, a unique piece in the ‘Modern Remains’ series.
Takeuchi Kouzo was born in 1977 in Hyogo Prefecture. In 2001 he graduated from Osaka University of Arts ; went on to study at Tajimi Municipal Ceramic Design Institute, Gifu graduating in 2003.
Takeuchi has quickly become one of the leading exponents of the avant-gard movement in Japan; his works has been shown not only in Japan but also in international exhibitions and are part of Museum collections such as Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Musée Cernuschi in Paris, Victoria & Albert Museum (UK). He has also been commissioned large pieces for Hotels and restaurants. Although he also makes utilitarian pieces, especially cups in delicate, unglazed porcelain, he is essentially an innovator and experimenting artist with a unique and characteristic style.
