Canton circa 1825, gilt interior, the elaborate cast everted godrooned rim adorned with flowers and scrolls, the midsection with ten chased panels of grapes and vines, the finely chased acanthus leaf thumbrest atop double C-scroll handle. Height 5 inches; length across handle to spout 7 3/8 inches, weight 21 Troy ounces, discretely monogrammed "W" in period script just below the waistline, marked as shown in fourth enlargement.

circa 1900, length 10.6, height 7.5 centimeters, mass 162.7 grams, .950 standard. If you're a Brit, that's 4 inches long; 3 1/4 inches high; 5.23 Troy ounces.

We're not going to prattle on about how rare it is or how good it is, but you may rest assured that it's both. Aside from a small test mark on the underside (please see fourth photo) the condition is pretty much flawless.

Length 8 3/8 inches, weight 31.1 Troy ounces, all monogrammed "M" (reverse, period script, see third photo) most have some slight tine wear but the pattern is in very good condition. Gorham souvenir spoons have been described as miniature sculptures, and these are fine examples. Each one was designed by a New Orleans silversmithy, and cast at the Gorham factory. Philadelphia circa 1790, a fine, large and massive piece, length 14 inches, length of bowl five inches, weight 6.87 Troy ounces, marked JA struck twice in cut cornered rectangle. There is a minor fill at the edge of the bowl (please see fifth photo) and some scratches on reverse, but excellent overall condition.

This spoon is not monogrammed and does not appear ever to have been, which is most unusual for early American silver.

Let's take a moment to reflect upon why a dealer, or at least Yours Truly, chooses to add an item to inventory.

Over the years, I've examined many pieces of Martelé, and if you dear reader will forgive me for a bit of crudeness, most of them are "trashed." Specifically, the detail is severely worn away, leaving the beauty of the overall design still appreciable but no longer intact.
